Plans to build a new residential area in centuries-old dunes were drafted towards the end of the 19th century. The Duinoord neighborhood is characterized by monumental, curvy streets, and the typical large mansions accessorized with decorative elements such as bay windows, cornices, stained glass windows, balconies, and dormers. These give the neighborhood a chic appearance.
Around the Sweelinckplein and on the outskirts of the neighborhood, you’ll find green parks with large monumental trees.
The city center is within cycling distance, as is the beach, sea, and dunes. There are good public transport connections (bus, streetcars, and RandstadRail). It is also just a short walk to the popular Frederik Hendriklaan shopping street, among locals knows as ‘de Fred’, in the adjacent neighborhood the Statenkwartier.
